Psychological Therapy

After initial assessment, which generally last one or two hours,  we will have an understanding of your difficulties and the different factors that have contributed to the development and persistence ofthe problem. Together we will consider the goals you would like to achieve in therapy and the approximate number of sessions that would be needed to reach your goals.

EMOTIONAL HEALTH PROBLEMS: I offer psychological therapy for people suffering with depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, panic anxiety, phobias, excessive worry, health anxiety, low self esteem, social anxiety and confidence issues.

TRAUMA (EMDR): EMDR is an acronym for ‘Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing’. Since it’s development in the 1980s, extensive research has demonstrated the effectiveness of EMDR in treating psychological trauma arising from diverse experiences, for example, childhood trauma, car accidents, assault and workplace accidents. EMDR has also been shown to be effective for depression, anxiety and certain physical health problems.

I have completed parts I, II & III training in EMDR with Alexandra Richman (www.emdr-training.com) and receive ongoing EMDR supervision for accreditation as an EMDR practitioner. I am sometimes able to offer discounted rates for individuals seeking EMDR for trauma.

DISORDERED EATING & WEIGHT MANAGEMENT: I offer therapy for binge eating disorder; emotional eating and weight loss. I am also able to provide specialist psychological assessment and report for patients considering bariatric (weight loss) surgery, as well as pre- and post-operative support for bariatric patients.

PHYSICAL HEALTH PROBLEMS: Experiencing ill health often causes signficant  stress and upset for the patient and their family. If the health problem is long term (chronic) it can affect self-esteem, mood, social relationships and confidence.  Clinical health psychology recognises the relationship between physical, emotional and social wellbeing. I work with clients to understand the impact of thoughts, feelings and behaviour on their health problems with the aim of easing distress and promoting a sense of control. I work with patients with a wide range of chronic health problems, including chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, health anxiety and IBS.
